My interest in wildlife began during my childhood on our family dairy farm in Vermont. Soon I was spending as much time as possible in woods and along streams, or reading books about wildlife. This interest eventually led me into a career in natural resources, with B.S. and M.S. degrees in the biological sciences. After eight years in forestry and extension service work, my volunteer work with the National Wildlife Federation led to my employment as as NWF's New England Regional Executive. After 20 years in that position, I took early retirement to become a writer. Those 20 years allowed me to acquire a great deal of knowledge from wildlife biologists and researchers - the true wildlife experts, who generously shared their expertise with me. Meanwhile, I became disturbed about the immense amount of misinformation being circulated about wildlife, and wanted to explain how these creatures actually live. Owls Aren't Wise and Bats Aren't Blind and the The Kids' Wildlife Book are the result. Home
